1. Blood draw: A small amount of blood is drawn from the patient, similar to a routine blood test. This is needed to separate the plasma from the platelets.
2. Centrifugation: The blood is processed in a centrifuge to separate its various components. This yields platelet-rich plasma (PRP), which is rich in growth factors.
3. Injection: The PRP is injected into the scalp in the areas where hair loss is occurring (it can also be injected into the skin in other areas). The growth factors in the PRP are intended to stimulate the hair follicles and promote hair growth. A course of 4–8 injections can promote hair growth more effectively than a single treatment.
